Uptown Charlotte is home to some amazing Mecklenburg County parks. And this summer, they’ll be the place to lay in the grass or sit under the stars and listen to nearly any kind of music.
“Nashville and Cincinnati have thriving music scenes and the events are often free making them accessible to everyone.” said Taylor Winchester with Midwood Entertainment. “We are hoping to bring this type of music scene to Charlotte.”
With several Uptown Parks offering free concerts this summer, there is sure to be something for everyone.
Here is a handy guide:
Live on the Green at First Ward Park
The newest music series is Live on the Green at First Ward Park.
“This music series will be a mix of Bluegrass, Americana and Indie Folk. If you look at the history of folk music, a lot of it has come out of the Carolinas.” said Winchester.
This year’s line-up features musicians that are out touring on the national scene. “Most of the artists have played in Charlotte before but always at a venue where you had to buy a ticket to see them. “ said Winchester. “ They already have somewhat of a following in Charlotte. Now people will be able to see them for free.”
Winchester hopes that National artists will help put Live on the Green on the map with a plan of featuring local bands in the coming years. “Once the event has name recognition it will be a great platform for promoting local artists.”
This family friendly event will include several food truck options and a few breweries will be onsite to sell craft beers.
So bring a chair or blanket and enjoy Friday nights at Live on the Green. There is metered parking and a parking garage off 7th street. The park is also light rail accessible.
Concert dates are June 2nd, June 16th, July 14th, July 28th, August 11th and August 25th. Music starts at 7pm. First Ward Park is located at 301 East 7th Street.
Party in the Park at Romare Bearden Park
