Charlotte Christmas Village opens at Romare Bearden Park
The holidays are all about traditions. From foods to family, decorations and songs, to shopping and sharing a table together; they’re some of the things that arguably make the holidays comfortable and familiar. This year, uptown Charlotte will be the backdrop for an all-new – and old fashioned – holiday tradition when the first-ever Charlotte Christmas Village comes to Romare Bearden Park.
The German-style holiday market, or christkindlmarkt, for the uber-traditionalists, opens at 11AM Thanksgiving Day, conveniently timed with the end of the Novant Health Thanksgiving Day Parade. How’s that for a full day?! Produced in partnership with Mecklenburg County Park and Recreation, Charlotte Center City Partners, City of Charlotte, and Visit Charlotte, organizers say it’s the first of a multi-year opportunity to establish a new, fun, family-friendly tradition.
“It will have all of the sounds, smells, and tastes of a traditional German holiday market,” says Paul Claus, producer and spokesperson for the Charlotte Christmas Village. “Over the years, we’ll add more and more to the experience.”
If you’re looking for an “outdoor” alternative to the mall this holiday, the Charlotte Christmas Village is worth a look. And a taste. Yes, you’ll find unique, hand-crafted gifts that you likely won’t find anywhere else in town. But you won’t want to miss custom-made wursts from 5Church, or traditional Bavarian roasted nuts and Austrian strudel. And the beer. The Charlotte Christmas Village keeps it local with west side Charlotte’s Blue Blaze Brewing.
“To go along with the Christkindlmarkt, Blue Blaze is sticking with the European and German spirit of the holiday,” says Blue Blaze Brewing’s Ginni Lane. “We’ll be pouring our Yellow Blazer, Blue Blaze, Black Blaze, and Brain Bucket Bock beers.”
And yes, there will be plenty of non-alcoholic beverages and hot ciders, too!
Open daily from Thanksgiving Day through Christmas Eve, the Charlotte Christmas Village is free and open to everyone. For specific hours, special on-site events, performances, and visitor information, check out the event website at http://www.cltchristmasvillage.com.
